sheesh,
So I spent a bunch of time trying to work ardour last night. Program crashes and general mayhem.. don't even remember what all but it was enough to make me go back to win98 - for sound editing anyway.
So there I was, booting every half hour as I was updating Win98.. getting it up to speed on a fresh install. With this fresh install, I had a bunch of crashes as well. This could be in part to having a dual boot disk with win2k on it, and another drive on another channel with linux (gentoo). But it shouldn't crash because of that. Got it all updated and installed cool edit again. Can no longer update it from its original condition because Adobe bought 'em out.
For giggles I did some research on adobe's product.. audition.. and didn't find much mean things said about it so I downloaded the demo version. Seems nice but I sure couldn't get my minidisc recording to record as loud as I could on linux. Also, couldn't figure out the normalize.. at least with the patience I had left. Now I'm thinking maybe I need to record in linux/ardour and edit in cool edit/win98. What a quandry. Also, I could see upgrading cool edit to audition (a cool 99 clams) but cool edit only loads in win98, not win2k. So not sure I could upgrade and get it to work in Win2k as cool edit has to be installed first. Does that mean, to get away from win98, I have to upgrade to winxp? Cripes. (Assuming cool edit will install there. I had bought the win98 version of cool edit.)
Gotta figure this out.. but heck. My life will be gone. /j
